In addition to this, you might want to check out the spectrum emulator Z80
(I can't remember the name of the author). Using this you can hook a tape
player up to your soundcard's microphone input, and actually load stuff in
like this while in the emulator (I've not actually seen it done, but a
friend of mine has transferred some games this way). You have to register
the program to get the source code, but the author might be willing to
give some hints. 

And also--to all those who wanted a copy of my serial transfer 
software--I'm afraid the disk has mysteriously vanished, so it will be a 
while longer before you get copies. Sorry :-(
