Subject: XBeeb 0.2 problems

I've emailed the fololwing message to James re XBeeb - I know he's a busy
chap so to save waiting for a reply I was wondering if any of the readers
of this group could please help, as I'd like to get XBeeb working tonight
if I can.

"Well, I've finally managed to install Linux FT and have (successfully?)
compiled and run XBeeb 0.2

However, not being a programmer I didn't make any changes to Config.h
(besides the XBEEBROOT directory, and even then it copied XBeeb to one of
the X11R6 sub-dirs!).

Well, what the heck - I managed to make my own directory with ROMS, etc
and typed in all the font-related commands, and it worked! Well, sort of
............ a few problems I'm afraid (remember - I'm no programmer!):

a) Despite the presence of the .c file to patch OS1.2, I can't figure out
how to use it. As a result I'm simply using the standard OS1.2 ROM image,
copied to the OS12 name (whatever it was - I forget now) so can't load
files at the moment. How should I patch it exactly please?

b) Whenever I change mode (ie go to mode 2) the machine slows down to a C
R A W L ...... eventually it locks up if I type in too much. This is
obviously a problem, but what is it?

c) After the first lockup I had to reboot the PC without shutting down
Linux properly (I didn't have a choice) but on restarting XBeeb it moaned
that it didn't have the right fonts. After re-typing the 2nd lot of
font-related commands in the INSTALL file it worked again. Will I need to
do this every time or was it related to not shutting down the Linux OS
properly the first time?"

Help?

Thanks,
Phil
