Subject: Emulator problems under Linux with sound
Recently I recompiled my Linux kernel for it to be able to use
my Soundblaster 2.0 card.
The compilation and installation went succesful and every program
I tested that uses sound works fine, except for...
XBeeb and BeebEm. These Beeb emulators worked fine under my previous
kernel which didn't include sound support.
These programs compile well under the new kernel, but when running
them I get an error: "Segmentation Fault" (XBeeb) or "Trap/Abort"
(BeebEm). This error occurs quickly after starting the programs,
even before their program windows are displayed.
Has anyone got a clue what causes these errors? The strange thing
is that all other proggies I've tried (including emulators and games)
run fine. (The only thing I can think of is a rather cryptic message
in the Sound_HOWTO. It says something about the ioctrl (or something
like that) function of the new drivers are not fully compatible
with older drivers. But how that could cause the problem or even
how I could solve them baffles me.)
For your information: I'm using Slackware 3.0.0, Linux kernel 1.2.13,
UMSDOS, have a hard disk on /dev/hda1, an IDE/ATAPI cdrom on /dev/hdb,
I use a simple boot disk (created from zImage) to boot i.e. no Lilo,
use the SB sound driver included with the Slackware distribution
(Infomagic) and have only the SB driver enabled.
Anyone can help me? Please? I'd love to play Beeb games with sound!
Thanx in advance,
Mark.
