The version of Exile you have - is it the unaltered set of files from the
original, i.e. !B, ExileL, ExileB, ExileSR and ExileMC? If so, I'll try
and dig out an old patch from my distant days of the Beeb that stops it
from asking for a password (I *did* buy the game though!). I think the
version you've got (which I once downloaded) was one where someone had
tried to remove the protection but not quite succeeded - it requires more
than simply removing the password routine...

PS. By the way, you probably won't get round the flickering background
problem unless your emulator can handle changes of palette midscreen.
